Quick heads-up for anyone missing text predictions in New Outlook. If your typing suggestions seem to have vanished, you’re not imagining it. As of July 1, 2025, Microsoft made a quiet change. Text Prediction is now turned off by default in Outlook for Windows, Outlook on the web, and for new users on iOS and Android.
But don’t worry—Text Prediction didn’t disappear forever. You just need to flip the switch. Here’s what changed and how to get it working again.
Why Is Text Prediction Missing in Outlook
Text Prediction helps you write faster by suggesting words and phrases as you type—kind of like autocomplete, but for full sentences.
So why is it being turned off by default?
Well, not everyone finds it helpful. Some users say it:
- Breaks their train of thought
- Suggests phrases that don’t match their writing tone
- Causes accidental sends when hitting Tab or Enter too quickly
- Feels intrusive in professional or personal emails
- Microsoft took that feedback and decided to give users more control by disabling it unless you choose to turn it on.
How to Turn Text Prediction Back On
If you want those helpful suggestions back, here’s how to turn Text Prediction on depending on your Outlook version:
- Outlook on the Web
Settings → Mail → Smart suggestions → Text predictions - New Outlook for Windows
Settings → Mail → Smart suggestions → Text predictions - Outlook Mobile (iOS/Android)
Settings → Mail → Text predictions
That’s it! Once enabled, your Outlook will start offering text suggestions again as you type.
