How to Use Undo Send in the New Outlook: The 2026 Upgrade

If you’re using the New Outlook, the upgraded Undo Send feature is one you’ll want to turn on right away. We’ve all hit Send and instantly felt that knot in our stomach—whether it was the wrong pricing discount, a misspelled recruiter’s name, the wrong attachment, or that heated reply we regretted the second it left our outbox. In the past we tried relying on Message Recall, but it doesn’t always work, especially with external recipients. The New Outlook Undo Send upgrade gives you a few extra seconds to stop your email before it actually goes out—so you can correct mistakes and send them with confidence.

What Does Undo Send Do in the New Outlook?

Undo Send in the New Outlook gives you a brief delay after you click Send, allowing you to pull the email back in Draft mode before it ever leaves your mailbox. Instead of trying to retrieve a message after it’s already delivered, like Message Recall, Undo Send simply pauses the email for a set number of seconds.

During this pause, you’ll see “Sending… Undo” at the bottom of your screen. Click Undo, and your email jumps right back into your Drafts, ready for correction.

When Is It Helpful to Use Undo Send?

Undo Send is helpful anytime you catch an error the moment after sending:

  • typed the incorrect information
  • attached the wrong file or outdated version of a document
  • typed the wrong name, especially in external communication
  • sent a negative message to a colleague you instantly regretted
  • forgot key details and want a moment to fix them

You don’t have to rely on hope, timing, or whether the recipient is internal or external. With Undo Send, everyone gets the same protection because your email never actually leaves your mailbox until the timer is up.

Where Is Undo Send Available and Who Can Use It?

Undo Send is available only in the New Outlook, not the classic version.

Key details:

  • It works for all recipients, internal and external.
  • It does not depend on the recipient’s settings, mailbox type, or whether they’ve already opened the email.

How to Adjust the Settings?

You can adjust the Undo Send delay by going to:

  • View → View Settings → Search “Undo” → Mail → Compose and reply
  • Microsoft previously limited Undo Send to 10 seconds, but the new update increases it up to 30 seconds.

WARNING: They do provide a warning that using the full 30 seconds might introduce delays or network issues, depending on your environment. I personally chose a middle setting longer than 10 seconds, shorter than 30, because 30 seconds can feel too long to wait for an email to fully send.

How Is Undo Send Different from Message Recall?

Message Recall tries to retrieve a message after it’s already delivered to someone’s mailbox. Because of this, it can fail. See this video for details.

Undo Send removes all of these limitations.

It doesn’t care who the recipient is or what mailbox they use because the email never actually sends until the timer expires. This means you can confidently fix mistakes without relying on the recall system at all.

Wrap Up

The upgraded Undo Send feature in the New Outlook gives you back something we all need—those extra few seconds to catch a mistake before it becomes a problem.

Whether you’re correcting pricing, fixing a name, or stopping a message you regret, this update offers a simple, reliable safety net that works every time. Turn it on, adjust your timing, and let Outlook help you send with confidence.
